For most weddings in Dubai, men should wear a well-cut suit in navy, charcoal or mid grey, with a white or pale blue shirt, a silk tie and polished leather shoes. If the invitation says black tie, wear a tuxedo. What changes from wedding to wedding is the cloth and the colour: a lightweight wool or linen blend for an outdoor ceremony in October or April, a mid-weight wool for an air-conditioned ballroom or a cool desert evening in January. Dubai’s wedding season runs from roughly October to April, with the busiest months from November to March. This guide explains what to wear as a guest, a groomsman or the groom, by season and by venue.
What should a man wear to a wedding in Dubai?
Start with the invitation. If it states a dress code, follow it. If it does not, a dark suit and tie is the safe choice for almost every Dubai wedding, because weddings here tend to be formal, held in the evening and often in hotels.
| Dress code on the invitation | What it means for men |
|---|---|
| Black tie | A tuxedo, white dress shirt and black bow tie |
| Black tie optional | A tuxedo, or a dark suit in navy or charcoal with a dark silk tie |
| Formal | A dark suit and tie |
| Cocktail or semi-formal | A suit; the tie can be lighter in colour, and a lighter suit works for daytime |
| Beach formal or garden formal | A lightweight suit in a lighter colour; a tie is usually still expected |
| No dress code stated | A dark suit and tie |

What to wear by season
Dubai’s climate changes the right cloth more than the right outfit. As a guide:
October, April and May: warm. Evenings are still warm, especially outdoors. Choose a lightweight tropical wool, a high-twist wool or a linen blend, ideally with a half-lined jacket so heat can escape. Lighter colours such as mid grey or soft blue work well for daytime and outdoor ceremonies.
November to March: peak season. Days are mild and evenings can be cool, particularly in the desert or by the water after sunset. A mid-weight wool is comfortable for most venues, and you can wear darker, richer colours. This is when most outdoor weddings take place.
June to September: summer. Weddings move indoors to air-conditioned hotels and ballrooms. A standard or lightweight wool suit is comfortable inside, but plan for the walk from the car: a lighter cloth and a breathable shirt help you arrive looking fresh.
What to wear by venue
Hotel ballroom. The most common Dubai wedding venue. Ballrooms are air-conditioned and often cool, so a mid-weight suit is comfortable and you can keep your jacket on all evening. Darker colours work well in evening light.
Beach or garden. A lighter cloth and a lighter colour are appropriate, but keep it tailored: a linen-blend suit, not shorts or a short-sleeved shirt. Leather loafers or suede shoes are more practical than formal oxfords on sand and grass. Pale beige or very light linen can look too casual if the reception then moves into a hotel, so choose a colour that works in both settings.
Desert. Temperatures fall quickly after sunset in the cooler months. A mid-weight wool keeps you comfortable late into the evening, and darker shoes hide the dust.
Religious venues and family homes. Dress conservatively: a dark suit, a tie, a buttoned shirt and the jacket kept on. If the wedding follows a particular cultural or religious tradition, follow the couple’s lead. Some invitations ask guests to wear traditional dress, and the hosts will usually be glad to advise.
What to wear as a guest
As a guest, the aim is to look polished without competing with the wedding party.
- Colour. Navy, charcoal and mid grey are always correct. Avoid white or ivory unless the couple has asked for it, and avoid all-black at daytime weddings, where it can look sombre.
- Shirt and tie. A white or pale blue shirt with a silk tie. A tie is expected at most Dubai weddings, even in the daytime.
- Shoes and socks. Polished leather shoes in black, dark brown or burgundy, with full-length dress socks.
- Fit. A suit that fits well looks more formal than an expensive suit that does not. The jacket should sit cleanly at the shoulders, and the sleeves should show a little shirt cuff.
What to wear as a groomsman
Groomsmen usually dress to a scheme set by the groom. The most effective approach is to coordinate rather than match exactly: the same cloth or colour family, with each man’s suit cut to his own measurements. Small differences, such as a different tie or pocket square for the best man, show the roles without breaking the look.

Measure the groomsmen around eight weeks before the wedding, and earlier if any of them are flying in from overseas. A practical option is a made-to-measure suit for each groomsman and a bespoke suit for the groom. Through The Moving Tailor, the groom, groomsmen and fathers can all be measured at one address in Dubai, which saves arranging separate appointments.
What to wear as the groom
The groom sets the tone for the whole wedding party. Most grooms in Dubai choose one of three routes:

- A bespoke suit in navy, charcoal, mid grey or a lighter tone for an outdoor ceremony, often with a waistcoat to distinguish it from the guests’ suits.
- A bespoke tuxedo for an evening or black-tie wedding, in black or midnight navy with a shawl or peak lapel.
- An ivory dinner jacket with black trousers for an outdoor evening wedding in the cooler months, which looks formal and stays cooler than a black jacket.
Choose the cloth for the venue and the season, not just the photographs. A groom is on his feet for hours, moving between outdoor photographs and an air-conditioned reception, so comfort matters as much as appearance.
Start eight to twelve weeks before the date. A bespoke suit typically takes six to eight weeks, with several fittings, and you should collect it at least a week before the wedding. Our wedding suits for grooms page sets out each step week by week.
Common mistakes at Dubai weddings
- A cloth that is too heavy for an outdoor ceremony in October or April.
- Removing the jacket too early. At formal weddings, keep it on until the groom or the hosts take theirs off.
- Casual shoes with a formal suit, such as trainers or very worn loafers.
- No-show socks with a formal suit, which look out of place at most Dubai weddings.
- Leaving it too late. From November to March, tailors’ diaries fill with wedding commissions, so book early if you want something made.
